The Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, Gabriel Bol Deng, says the commission is prepared to organise free, fair, credible and independent elections as mandated by law. In a news conference, Deng urges politicians aspiring for leadership to win public support through ideas and manifestos, rather than guns, saying successful elections require collective responsibility. The NEC Chairperson says the Commission’s role is to act as a referee, ensuring all political players follow the rules of the electoral process. He also disclosed that eight regulations have been approved by the Commissioners to guide the electoral process. Deng further announces changes within the Commission, including the appointment of Ahon Malou. The NEC says it will continue working with the media and other stakeholders to ensure accurate information reaches the public as preparations for the December 22 elections continue.
