South Sudan Reaffirms Commitment To Host EAC Regional Centre Of Excellence

<p >The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to establishing the East African Community, EAC, Regional Centre of Excellence for Climate Change, One Health, and Health Security, following an inter-ministerial meeting held in Juba.  The ministers unanimously agreed to support the establishment of the regional centre, which is expected to strengthen research, innovation, and regional collaboration in addressing climate change, public health threats, and environmental challenges. The meeting was also attended virtually by regional experts from the East African Community and specialists from the University of Juba, who provided technical guidance on the operationalization of the proposed Centre of Excellence.<o:p></o:p></p><p > </p><p> </p><p >Acting Minister of Health, Ambassador Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, says the Ministry of Health fully supports the initiative and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to hosting and operationalizing the regional center. The Minister of East African Community Affairs, Pieng Deng Kuol, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the initiative, pledging continued engagement with relevant national and regional authorities to ensure the successful establishment of the Centre of Excellence in South Sudan. Once established, the EAC Regional Centre of Excellence is expected to enhance scientific research, build institutional capacity, and improve regional cooperation in tackling climate change, emerging health threats, and other cross-border challenges affecting the East African region.<o:p></o:p></p>
