ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY & PARTNERS LAUNCH BIODIVERSITY STRATEGY

<p >The Ministry of Environment and Forestry, in collaboration with international partners, has launched a vital stakeholder programme on updating the country's national biodiversity strategy. The initiative seeks to align national environmental priorities with global frameworks to ensure the sustainable management of South Sudan's rich natural ecosystems. The high-level gathering marks the official launch of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's <b>GEF-8 Project</b>.<b> </b>This project forms the “Umbrella Programme to Support National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) Update and the 7th National Reports to the Convention on Biological Diversity”.  Addressing the participants, David Batali Oliver, the acting Undersecretary for Environment in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, emphasized that the project is a direct manifestation of South Sudan’s commitment to international environmental agreements, specifically the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. On her part, the Representative of the United Nations Development Programme <b>(UNDP)</b>, Natacha Kunama, reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering support for the process. <b><o:p></o:p></b></p>
