STABILITY RETURNS TO AKOBO COUNTY AS GOVT-LED PEACE MISSION VISITS WALGAK

<p >Peace and stability have returned to Akobo county as Govt-led peace mission visits Walgak. A Jonglei State peace mission led by the State Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Kuony Yien Nyuon reaffirms the government's commitment to peace, security, and humanitarian recovery in across the Lou Nuer region. Akobo County Commissioner James Kueth Makuach, local leaders, youth, and women's representatives welcome the delegation. Addressing residents, Kuony thanks President Salva Kiir Mayardit for entrusting Dr. Riek Gai Kok with the leadership of Jonglei State and reiterated the community's commitment to peace, stability, and the upcoming December 2026 elections. He highlights the severe humanitarian challenges facing the area, including food insecurity and limited healthcare services, and appealed to the national government, humanitarian organizations, and international partners for urgent support. Commissioner James Kueth notes that security has improved in Walgak and that many displaced residents have returned home and are rebuilding their lives.<o:p></o:p></p>
