<p >The Government says the amendments to the Revitalized Peace Agreement facilitate credible, free and fair elections scheduled for December this year at the end of the transitional period. Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Martin Elia Lomuro, made the assurance during a briefing of members of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission in Juba. Dr. Lomuro says the recent amendments are intended to enhance cooperation among the parties to the peace agreement, stakeholders, and regional and international guarantors, saying issues arising from the earlier process, which had created differences among RJMEC members, have now been resolved and harmonized, clearing the way for the conduct of the December 2026 general elections. The Interim Chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, Aggrey George Owinow, said the commission has resumed its regular meetings to support renewed efforts toward inclusive dialogue among South Sudan’s political stakeholders, consensus-building, and the full implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.<o:p></o:p></p>
